Talisker Storm Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Following mashing, the barley is fermented in the wooden washbacks of the distillery and then passed through Talisker’s copper-pot stills twice. The stills have special worm tubs and lye pipes in the shape of swans. This arrangement causes some of the vapor to condense during the distillation process before it reaches the cooler and then return to the still for redistillation. Talisker Single Malt Whisky’s distinctive, robust flavor character is a result of this technique.
The severe weather that the Isle of Skye frequently endures is the inspiration behind the name of Talisker Storm Single Malt Scotch Whiskey. Jim Beveridge, Talisker’s master mixer, says, “We were inspired to craft an expression as unique as the dramatic terrain of the island from where it hails.” Rejuvenated and refill casks of varying ages are married to create the whisky, which adds to the vibrant intensity that is Talisker Distillery’s hallmark. By using this method, Beveridge is able to produce “one vibrant dram.”
The scent of Talisker Storm includes honey, black pepper, smoked beef, and spicy oak. Warming flavors of pepper and cloves follow the fragrance, which is followed by creamy, mellow caramel notes on the taste. With hints of salt, pepper, and smoke, the finish is silky and long-lasting.
Whisky Advocate named Talisker Storm the Highlands Single Malt of the Year on December 20, 2013.
