Notes on Tasting
The nose has aromas of ripe fruit, wood, and creamy vanilla. It has a buttery, sweet taste that I can only characterize as “candied corn.” You are reminded that you are sipping a Bourbon by the oaky flavors that balance the sweetness.
The Willett Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, produces Kentucky Vintage, a bourbon. The brand is one of the company’s small batch bourbon products; the others are Pure Kentucky XO, Rowan’s Creek, and Noah’s Mill.
The label states that the bourbon is hand-bottled at 45.0% alc./vol. (90 U.S. proof) and has a comparatively long age period (significantly more than a decade – “long beyond that of any ordinary bourbon”) proof kentucky vintage.
Concerning Willett
Craft whiskey distillation is a family tradition for the Willetts. During Reconstruction, John David Willlett started distilling at the Moore, Willett & Frenke Distillery, which is located just outside of Louisville, Kentucky. A. Lambert Willett, his 15-year-old son, started working as an apprentice for his father in 1898. Lambert eventually bought a farm outside of Bardstown, Kentucky, and in the spring of 1935 he started building the Willett Distilling Company. The family legacy endures even though Willett Distilling Company subsequently changed its name to Kentucky Bourbon Distillers. Even KBD’s owner, Kulsveen, is Willett’s son-in-law vintage bourbon kentucky.
