Booker’s Granny’s Batch 2020-01 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Bookers Small Batch Bourbon uncut and unfiltered bourbon is offered in small batches every year; each batch is painstakingly aged to perfection and is available when it’s ready. The Granny’s Batch, the first release of 2020, was made using barrels from two production dates that were kept in four rickhouses at six separate locations. Margaret Beam Noe, Fred’s grandmother and Booker’s mother, is the source of the expression’s name. She was crucial in preserving the family legacy (and later the business!) even though she wasn’t directly involved in the bourbon industry. Granny’s Batch’s spice, vanilla, and gentle warmth make it the ideal whiskey to savor with loved ones. Bottled at 126.4 proof, the expression has been aged for six years.

Notes on Tasting

Aromas of spice, vanilla, and barrel char fill the nose. With overtones of caramel, butterscotch, and flowers, the palate is flavorful and subtly warm. With baking spices, oak, and vanilla, it has a lingering, sweet finish.

Concerning Bookers Bourbon

Booker Noe, Jim Beam’s grandson, was eager to become 21—not so he could start drinking, but so he could start distilling. Growing up in the center of Kentucky and being a sixth-generation distiller with Beam blood in his veins made it inevitable. After years of service as a Master Distiller, he retired and began bottling his own bourbon as presents for friends and family.

Along the way, he came up with the term “small batch” when he introduced the first batch of his namesake Booker’s Bourbon to the general public in 1988. Today, Booker’s runs under the Jim Beam distillery and is managed by his son Fred. He asked his son, “Fred, make sure they don’t mess with my Booker’s,” after he retired.
