Notes on Tasting
Deep Amber in color
Taste: smooth and sweet
Aroma: Brown spices and vanilla
Finish: Calm and comfortable
Jimmy once approached Dad and me at a Bourbon Festival and offered us three glasses of a whiskey to sample. When Dad asked what it was, Jimmy explained that it was something special and new that he was working on. It was some very lovely things. Presenting a new product to a rival and getting their opinion struck me as being really cool. It demonstrated to me the value of friendship and trust as well as how much those old-timers valued one another.
The other big thing Jimmy taught me was to treat everybody like I wanted to be treated. When we went to events at bars or liquor stores, he always stayed late to make sure everyone got their picture taken and their bottle signed. It’s easy to take for granted that we get to do what we do because of the people that stand in line for our whiskey, but Jimmy never did.
Just like Dad, there are few things Jimmy loves more than a damn good bottle of bourbon. So, cheers to him and the mentorship he’s given me through thick and thin all these years. I hope you get to share a glass with company as good and true as Jimmy.
NOTES FROM A MASTER DISTILLER
The Noe family’s beloved friend Jimmy Russell is honored in the fourth and last batch of Booker’s Bourbon until 2024. a close friend of my father who has served as a second father figure to me since his death in 2004.
Because it was matured in burned white oak barrels until they were discharged, this batch has a deep amber color. The perfume of this batch filled the room when I first tasted it at my kitchen table. The vanilla and brown spice flavors blend perfectly in that first sip, which is sweet and smooth and entices you to take another sip. The taste of the end is calming and delightful.
Making this batch for Jimmy makes me very pleased, and I know my dad would have been thrilled to see his namesake bourbon devoted to his beloved friend booker’s bourbon for sale.
