Ardbeg releases a new product to commemorate Ardbeg Day every year. In 2023, Dr. Bill Lumsden experimented with letting the peat shine, removing the purifier from the still, and reducing the spirit’s floral fruitiness. Bottled at 92 proof, this is the standard, non-committee version.
Ardbeg Heavy Vapours Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Ardbeg is infamous for making some of the industry’s strongest and fiercest Scotch whiskies. The distillery, which was established in 1815, is located on the island of Islay’s southern shore. Islay is known for its smokey, peated single malts. Every year, in time for Ardbeg Day, the Ardbeg Committee introduces a number of limited-edition whisky releases to celebrate Ardbeg whisky. Dr. Bill Lumsden’s experiment, Heavy Vapours, was released by Ardbeg in 2023. The balance of smokey and flowery fruit aromas in Ardbeg is largely attributed to the purifier on the still.
The purifier was not used in the production of this single malt, resulting in a whisky that is even more robust, black, and wild. This is bottled at a slightly lower 92 proof and is the standard, non-committee release.

Notes on Tasting
Sea spray, earthy, fruity, and floral notes, together with a hint of citrus, are all present in the smoky nose. On the palate, peat blends with coastal aromas, culminating in a smoky finish with a hint of chocolate.
Concerning Ardbeg
Just over 3,000 people live on the island of Islay, which is the southernmost of the Inner Hebridean Scottish Isles and just 240 square miles in size. However, the island is one of only five distilling districts in Scotland that have legal protection for their identity.
The MacDougall family established Ardbeg Distillery in 1815, and it is located on the southern coast of islay whisky ardbeg. The distillery, which employs about one-third of Islay’s workforce by 1886, is a reminder of Scottish culture and traditions.
