The Willett Distillery was established in 1936, and the Willett family has a long history of distilling. With the modern Willetts guiding the family tradition, the restored distillery reopened its doors in 2012. The first Willett 8 Year Bourbon was made available in 2022. 2013 saw the debut release, which was barreled at 115 proof after being distilled from a special wheated bourbon mash bill. Eight years were spent on American oak casks with #4 char, and in 2022, it was bottled at 108 proof without chill-filtration.

Willett Wheated 8 year bourbon Notes on Tasting

There are notes of caramel, vanilla, and wheat in the sweet, oaky nose. The finish is smooth and pleasantly long, with a rich, sweet, and deep palate that includes caramel, oak, and a hint of spice willett family estate bottled in bond bourbon.

Concerning Willett bourbon

Craft whiskey distillation is a family tradition for the Willetts. During Reconstruction, John David Willlett started distilling at the Moore, Willett & Frenke Distillery, which is located just outside of Louisville, Kentucky. A. Lambert Willett, his 15-year-old son, started working as an apprentice for his father in 1898. Lambert eventually bought a farm outside of Bardstown, Kentucky, and in the spring of 1935 he started building the Willett Distilling Company. The family legacy endures even though Willett Distilling Company subsequently changed its name to Kentucky Bourbon Distillers. Even KBD’s owner, Kulsveen, is Willett’s son-in-law.
