About Old Rip Van Winkle Bourbon
Julian Pappy Van Winkle Sr. started working as a traveling salesman for Louisville, Kentucky’s W.L. Weller & Sons Company in 1893. Bourbon was distributed by liquor wholesaler Weller & Sons under a number of brands, such as Old Fitzgerald and Rebel Yell. Van Winkle acquired Weller & Sons Co. and the Stitzel Distillery, which manufactured the majority of the bourbons that the distributor sold, after the year 2000, and combined the two businesses.
Most distilleries were compelled to lock their doors during Prohibition, but Van Winkle was able to keep running his distillery and making whiskey for medical use. Van Winkle was the nation’s oldest living distiller when he passed away in 1966 at the age of 91.

On the nose, there are notes of sugary syrup, apples, and baking spices. The taste is characterized by maple, citrus, dried herbs, and pitted fruits. Finish quickly to moderately with vanilla beans, egg custard, and burnt sugars. Honey, caramel, chocolate-covered orange, maple, and light fudge. The finish is robust and beautiful.
