For more than three centuries, The Macallan special edition has called the Easter Elchies House, perched on a ridge above the banks of the River Spey, their spiritual home. Sir Lewis Grant of Grant rented the house to Alexander Reid in 1820. As a farmer, Reid quickly planted barley in the fields around the house. He then built the first authorized distillery on the property, which he called Macallan after an old church that had burned down in the fifteenth century. Reid would ferment and distill his excess grains into whisky during the winter, when the farm was not as busy. This whisky was frequently consumed straight from the still or sold to tourists who were traveling through the town.

The first of the prestigious distillery’s new yearly limited editions is Macallan Edition No. 1. Whisky matured in eight distinct types of European and American oak casks is used to make Macallan Edition No. 1. Bob Dalgarno, The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, selected each cask with the intention of producing a nuanced and rich Macallan first edition​ whisky.

The prestigious distillery’s second release in a new yearly limited edition is Macallan Edition No. 2. The Roca brothers, whose restaurant El Celler de Can Roca has won two awards for finest restaurant in the world, and Bob Dalgarno, the Macallan Master Whisky Maker, collaborated on Edition No. 2.

The third installment of The Macallan’s wood-centric series is Macallan Edition No. 3. Macallan Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno and Master Perfumer Roja Dove oversaw the production of this upscale spirit. To create this exceptional whisky, Dalgarno hand-picked less than 1% of the casks maturing on the Macallan estate. With base notes of vanilla, fruit, and wood and ethereally delicate, flowery notes in the fore, this Edition No. 3 is a perfect blend of six American and European oak casks.

The Macallan 1

rich caramel and vanilla scent. More warmth, spice, and complexity are added by the palate, which still maintains its creamy richness throughout. The result is a long, silky finish that has hints of chocolate, cinnamon, and allspice.

The Macallan 2

sweet scent of toffee, apple, and vanilla. After a long and smooth finish full of brown sugar, nutmeg, and a hint of chocolate, the palate adds more warmth, spice, and complexity while maintaining a silky richness throughout.

The Macallan 3

Delicate floral scents, wood, and sweet vanilla are among the sophisticated elements that fill the nose. Citrus essential scents, ginger and baking spices, chocolate, and gentle oak come next. With notes of citrus, vanilla, and crisp orchard fruits, followed by baking spices and robust oak, the palate is not overly sweet. With a lingering, sweet, delectable fruit note, the finish makes a lovely imprint on the senses.
