Craft whiskey distillation is a family tradition for the Willetts. During Reconstruction, John David Willlett started distilling at the Moore, Willett & Frenke Distillery, which is located just outside of Louisville, Kentucky. A. Lambert Willett, his 15-year-old son, started working as an apprentice for his father in 1898. Lambert eventually bought a farm outside of Bardstown, Kentucky, and in the spring of 1935 he started building the Willett-Distilling Company. The family legacy endures even though Willett Distilling Company subsequently changed its name to Kentucky Bourbon Distillers. Even KBD’s owner, Kulsveen, is Willett’s son-in-law.

Few things are more American than bourbon, which can be made anywhere in the United States but is primarily manufactured in Kentucky.
