Johannes Reginald Beam immigrated to the US from Germany after the American Revolutionary War and finally made Kentucky County his home. At the time, Kentucky County was governed by a military governor by the name of John J. Bowman and was still regarded as a part of Virginia.
Following his relocation to Kentucky, Beam started gathering corn and initiated a family custom by turning the extra grains he gathered into whiskey. Since then, the Beam family has produced whiskey for the named company for seven generations. James Beam is the company’s namesake; he saved it during Prohibition.
Booker Noe, Beam’s grandson, joined the family business in 1950 and within ten years was elevated to Master Distiller, which is how Knob Creek Bourbon was developed. Booker was well-known for his infectious personality and his ability to talk like a true Kentuckian. He is often recognized as the founder of the small-batch bourbon movement because he introduced the “Small Batch Bourbon Collection,” which features bourbons from knob creek whiskey, Basil Hayden, Booker, and Baker.
