Kings County Single Barrel 7 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey
After being distilled in 2013, Kings County Bourbon Single Barrel 7 Year Old was aged in the distillery’s greenhouse-style aging facility. Since it was the oldest age-statement single-barrel expression when it was released, it represents a significant turning point for the artisan distillery. Because of its prolonged aging, 34% of the barrel (number 1198), was lost to evaporation. With aromas of barrel, spice, toffee, and peanuts, it has a classic bourbon profile and is bottled at 107 percent. At the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2021, it took home a Gold Medal.

Kings County Bourbon Notes on Tasting
Oak, citrus zest, and spice notes of clove and cinnamon greet the nose. Toffee, chocolate, toasted wood, and a hint of peanuts are all present on the palate, which ends with a lengthy and somewhat sharp aftertaste.
Concerning Kings County
The oldest whiskey distillery still in operation in New York City and the city’s first since Prohibition, Kings County Distillery is located along the East River. The century-old Paymaster Building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard is home to Colin Spoelman and David Haskell, the master distillers at Kings County, who create handcrafted bourbon and moonshine, situated between Vinegar Hill and Williamsburg.
The two distillers use a hairdryer (manufactured by Revlon) to seal each bottle and a typewriter they found on the Williamsburg pavement to create the labels that go on their transparent flask-shaped bottles. Mesh washing bags serve as strainers, and handwritten scribbles on a whiteboard identify several batches. Haskell and Spoelman sell the wasted mash to a pig farmer who uses it as fodder, and they utilize the “head”—the first alcohol made from each batch—as a disinfectant. “I still don’t understand why it doesn’t make the pigs drunk,” adds Haskell.
