Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois, the mayor of Bercy at the time, founded it in 1809 in the French suburb of Bercy, Paris. In the beginning, Courvoisier was a wine and spirits company. The two began their careers as cognac traders before going on to develop their own brand.
After centuries, Courvoisier is already a well-known brand. The preferred beverage of celebrities and nobility. For for than 200 years, the business—now owned by Beam Suntory—has produced just cognac.
