Black Button Distillery Distillery Barrel Aging Kit
One bottle of Black Button Distillery Distillery Distilling Moonshine and a two-liter, charred American oak cask are included in the Black Button Distillery Distillery Barrel Aging Kit.
A family farm in New York provides the mash for Black Button Distillery Distillery Distilling Moonshine, which is made from 80% non-GMO corn and 20% malted barley. “The farm has been growing corn, wheat and rye on over 1,600 acres for four generations,” Barrett explains. “They are an institution, and we’re happy to be partnering with them,” Barrett continues, adding that he returns the grains to the same farm so they may be used as cattle feed once they have been used at the distillery. “It’s a very green process and makes for some very happy cows.” ¸
Following their arrival at the distillery, the grains undergo a process of milling and mashing, followed by fermentation and distillation through a 300-gallon artisan copper pot still. “Our extra-long lyne arm and unique whiskey helmet design contribute to the super smooth taste almost as much as our heritage style corn does.” The whiskey is instantly bottled at 100 percent after distillation.
“We invite you to replicate the aging process we use in crafting our aged whiskies at home,” Barrett states, “by aging this whiskey yourself in our charred, American oak casks.” A little spigot is included with every cask so that the whiskey can be tasted as it matures. The whiskey can be rebottled or drunk once it has reached the ideal level of maturity.
For the do-it-yourselfer dad in particular, the Black Button Distillery Distillery Barrel Aging Kit is the ideal Father’s Day present.

Concerning Black Button
At just 24 years old, Jason Barrett founded Black Button Distilling and took over as its lead distiller in 2012. Born into a family of the best men’s suit button makers, whose creations were worn by “Presidents, Popes, Kings, and Businessmen the world over,” Barret began his career in his grandfather’s factory until deciding he wanted to pursue his own interests.
Following graduation, Barrett went back to his birthplace of Rochester, New York, to pursue his passion: creating whiskey and starting the city’s first craft distillery since the Prohibition era. Every small batch of Black Button spirits is made from local NY grains, with over 90% of ingredients grown or produced in New York State. The company was named Black Button because of a family inside joke: Barret is color blind, and the family always joked that if we were to take over the family business, they’d have to produce only black buttons where to buy ole smoky moonshine near me.
In order to promote regional and sustainable agriculture, family farms in New York State provide everything from corn, wheat, rye, and barley to dairy cream and apple cider. At the Black Button Farm in South Bristol, they even cultivate their own juniper for Black Button gin. Black Button offers vodka, moonshine, and liqueur in addition to whiskey and gin.
