Barrell Craft Spirits 15 Year Old Bourbon 2021 Edition

Joe Beatrice is the founder of Barrell Craft Spirits, an independent bottler whose self-stated mission is to locate and choose the best barrels and batches of whiskey and rum, wherever they may be. “I started this company to share my passion for unique, high-quality spirits,” Beatrice says. Barrell bottles all of their whiskeys at cask strength in order to maintain the unique qualities of each batch. “When the whiskey is straight from the barrel, the flavor is the most complex and concentrated,” Beatrice says.

Their objective is to “explore different distillation methods, barrels, and aging environments” with each batch having a restricted release. Whiskey expert Fred Minnick named their releases the Best American Whiskey of 2018, and they have captivated the hearts of bourbon aficionados worldwide and won several of the most prestigious honors.

The Grey Label treatment is reserved for the finest, rarest, and most meticulously crafted products. A combination of mature casks chosen at the height of their maturity makes up the fourth release in the series. This cask-strength release was bottled in Kentucky at 100.4 proof after being distilled and matured in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Notes on Tasting

With notes of smoke, honeycomb, chocolate, leather, fruit, and herbal scents, the nose opens woody. With cola, allspice, fennel, mint, oak spice, and fruit, the palate is sweet and syrupy. There are notes of tobacco, almonds, coffee, and jam in the dry, tannic finish.
