Of the 140 or so committees on the Scottish island of Islay, the Ardbeg Committee is the biggest. The Ardbeg Whiskey Committee, which has more than 120,000 members worldwide, celebrates Ardbeg whisky by releasing limited-edition whiskies. In time for the event, Ardbeg creates a limited-edition whisky every year. For the 2022 celebration, Ardcore was introduced as a companion whisky. This was the distillery’s first usage of black malt, which they claim is “roasted to the extreme.” At 100.2 percent, the single malt was bottled without chill-filtration and has a strong flavor profile of dark chocolate, sweet smoke, charcoal, and anise. The Islay Scotch, which was previously only accessible to Committee members, is now accessible here.

Notes on Tasting
