1792 Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
The ingredients for 1792 Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey are 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% barley. A more nuanced and full-bodied whiskey is produced by the bourbon’s mashbill’s extensive use of rye, even while the recipe’s use of maize adds traditional notes of butterscotch and roasted nuts.
In Warehouse Z on the distillery’s site in Bardstown, Kentucky, the bourbon is aged in brand-new American oak casks following distillation. Because Warehouse Z is perched on a bluff, it benefits from the extreme heat and humidity that are perfect for whiskey maturation. “The best barrels are chosen and tasted from the best aging warehouses to create this unique bourbon,” explains master distiller Ken Pierce of Barton 1792. Only those barrels that are judged “exceptional” are subsequently bottled one at a time. This keeps each barrel’s unique character intact.
Water from the Tom Moore spring is used to bring the bourbon to proof after it has been aged for at least eight years. The iron-free Kentucky limestone water, which Moore used to make his own whiskey more than a century ago, gives the bourbon a delicate hint of depth and richness.
The single barrel’s nose is carried by sweet butterscotch notes, similar to the normal issue 1792, but a little more fruity overall, with undertones of Fuji apple and ginger. Warm, bitter cloves temper the sweet finish, which has a caramel-forward palate with a slight rye nip.
We anticipate that this award-winning distillery’s new single barrel release will be just as successful as its previous limited edition releases from 1792, which sold briskly and quickly became rare.
