A gathering of whisky enthusiasts gathers annually during the final week of May for a particularly special occasion that honors the rich culture of the Scottish island of Islay and, of course, the productive spirit of whisky production. Every year, no car is safe because the hatchbacks and harvesters are jazzed up and turned into vibrant mobile gardens that parade by the Ardbeg distillery’s doors from Port Ellen’s enticing pier. Notes on Tasting

The aroma of pine resin, woodsmoke, and seaspray, along with the sweetness of pineapple, ripe bananas, and fresh vanilla pods, make this single malt an impressive nose. With hints of peat, saltiness, and dark chocolate in the background, the smells of lavender, licorice, and vanilla entice the palate. It has a lengthy, smokey finish.

Concerning Ardbeg

Just over 3,000 people live on the island of Islay, which is the southernmost of the Inner Hebridean Scottish Isles and just 240 square miles in size. However, the island is one of only five distilling districts in Scotland that have legal protection for their identity.

The MacDougall family established Ardbeg Distillery in 1815, and it is located on the southern coast of Islay. The distillery, which employs about one-third of Islay’s workforce by 1886, is a reminder of Scottish culture and traditions.
