Talisker Whisky Distillers Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Following mashing, the barley is fermented in the wooden washbacks of the distillery and then passed through Talisker’s copper-pot stills twice. The distinctive, robust flavor character of Talisker whisky is attributed to the stills’ swan-shaped lye pipes and worm tubs.
After being distilled in 2003, Talisker Distiller’s Edition 2014 Single Malt Scotch Whisky was aged for ten years in used American bourbon casks. The whisky was double-barreled, or finished, in barrels that had once been used to mature Amoroso sherry after its first beautyrest. A combination of Pedro Ximénez grapes is typically used to sweeten Amoroso sherry, which is a type of Oloroso sherry. Talisker Distiller’s Edition therefore has a crisp, robust body and a scent of red fruits, berries, and apricots. The whisky starts off with sweet, fruity notes that are followed by hints of vanilla, peat, and sea salt before fading into a sophisticated, lingering aftertaste.
Wine Enthusiast gave Talisker Distiller’s Edition Single Malt Whisky a score of 96–100 points, making it a “Best Buy.”
“It is my responsibility as Talisker’s Distillery Manager to make sure that quality is paramount,” Lochhead explains.
